Before we go into the nitty-gritty of ANAN registration, let’s find out the history of this professional accountancy body.
The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria fondly known as ANAN was formed on 1st January 1979, incorporated on 28th September 1983, and was finally chartered by Decree 76 of 1993 on 25th August 1993.
How To Become ANAN-Certified.
To become an ANAN-certified accountant all you need is to complete the following simple steps:
- Register as a student at the college and pass the professional exams (minimum of 9 months)
- Observe two years mandatory Accountant in Training program ( AIT)
- Induction as an ANAN member.
Nonetheless, before you can register as a student at the Nigerian College of Accountancy you have to fulfill certain requirements. Only by fulfilling these can you proceed on your journey to becoming ANAN certified accountant.
What You Should Know Before You Register
Just anyone cannot register for the ANAN examination, the first criteria you must have fulfilled is to have graduated college i.e. you must be an accountancy graduate from an accredited university or polytechnic in Nigeria.
However, there is a caveat to that. Perhaps you didn’t graduate with an accountancy degree or graduated from a non-Nigerian institution. This is what you will do:
In the case of the former, all you need do is register for the ANAN conversion program before opting for the professional exams while in the latter, the concerned candidate is required to provide a transcript of his/her academic records properly issued and signed by the Registrar of the institution from where he/she graduated.
What Is The ANAN Conversion Program All About?
Let me reiterate what I have earlier stated, the conversion program is for individuals who didn’t graduate from the accounting department in any recognized institution.
Holders of University degree or/HND in Business Administration, Management, Economics, and Banking and Finance, shall be admitted into the Conversion Programme.
The successful completion of the conversion accounting program requires that individuals must have completed two stages of exams which usually take place in the last week of January and May. The program usually lasts for 9 months.

How To Register For ANAN
For individuals who have met the set requirement, you can proceed to register by procuring the application form from the Nigerian College of Accountancy, Kwall in Bassa LGA, near Jos.
Candidates can also obtain the application form from any accredited center of the Nigerian College of Accountancy.
But for candidates who don’t live close to any of these centers, your best shot at registering is via the internet and you can achieve this by adhering closely to following a step-by-step guide.
- The first thing is to visit the official website of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) by clicking here.
- Click on the Nigerian College of Accountancy on the upper tab of the home page.
- Select ONLINE APPLICATION and click APPLY ONLINE.
- Fill in necessary information which includes surname, other names, valid e-mail, phone number and submit.
- A LINK to proceed with the PAYMENT of N10,000.00 only being the purchase of APPLICATION FORM and process of filling of form would be sent to the e-mail or phone number provided which will include your USERNAME & PASSWORD to log in.
- Click on STUDENT LOGIN located under online Application then ENTER your EMAIL ADDRESS and the PASSWORD sent to your Mail. Please note that the password can be changed later.
- PROCEED to Complete the online REGISTRATION FORM.
- PREVIEW your Application’ and ensure all information is correct.
- PAYMENT via Electronic Channel as provided.
- SUBMIT Application Form and WAIT for Admission Letter via your email address.
